1 January 1943 - German forces have assaulted the Panama Canal, a move sure to cause economic and military pains for the United States. On the night of December 31, 1942, it is believed Nazi saboteurs infiltrated Panama from the Atlantic and then used explosives to damage the three locks of the canal before slipping away. American military casualties have also been reported though the number has not yet been released.
It will take from six months to a year to fix the damage caused. Already President Dewey has ordered part of the Atlantic Fleet south to protect the canal. This as the Atlantic Fleet is already stretched thin protecting the east coast.
