FDR Assassinated

16 February 1933 - While celebrating his electoral victory in Miami last night, President-elect Franklin Roosevelt was shot and killed by Giuseppe Zangara, an Italian immigrant. Roosevelt had been giving a speech in Bayfront Park when a shot rang out from the crowd striking him fatally. The crowd quickly seized upon the assassin as he fired five more shots injuring several bystanders.

While in custody, Zangara was quoted as saying, "I have the gun in my hand. I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists." He plans to plead guilty to charges of first degree murder.

Following Roosevelt's death, John N. Garner will assume his place as 32nd President of the United States. The new President-elect has called for a day of mourning in remembrance of FDR's sacrifice for his country.
