May 1, 1933 - The Fuhrer plans to shock the world today by declaring his intention to expand the Army to 600,000 men, create the Luftwaffe, and increase the size of the Kriegsmarine in direct violation of the Versailles Treaty. Hitler calls this the first step in the re-establishment of German pride and the righting of a wrong committed at the conclusion of the Great War. Still unknown is what effect this will have on the League of Nations and Europe.
Many expect Britain and France to oppose Hitler's rearmament program on the grounds that it may provoke yet another continental war. Hitler has soothed many fears by reaffirming that he is only interested in peace, not war.
